Government contracts offer opportunities
State Government tenders for significant civil and construction projects offer opportunities for regional businesses including subcontractors. Upcoming projects for the Great Southern include the $175 million Albany Ring Road, the $15.2 million Mount Lockyer Primary School redevelopment and the $32 million Albany-Denmark water pipeline.
Along with smaller projects and contracts for ongoing Government activities, all are expected to create opportunities for regional businesses. Local content initiatives are coordinated in the Great Southern by Local Content Adviser Charlotte McIntyre, who is based at the GSDC and works in concert with a statewide network of advisers.
GSDC Chief Executive Officer Bruce Manning said the Government’s procurement processes included local content principles.
“For example, tender processes previously focused only on the head contract but the Government is now also raising awareness of upcoming projects among subcontractors, which offers significant opportunities for a wider range of regional businesses,” Mr Manning said.
“The Government’s civil and construction projects continue to provide jobs for regional workers in contexts where physical distancing can be maintained on work sites.
“As part of our support for local content in State Government contracts, the GSDC publishes a register of open tenders and early tender advice on our website, and we post the information on Facebook,” Mr Manning said.
Ms McIntyre can be contacted through the GSDC on 9842 4888 and can refer interested Great Southern businesses to the relevant contacts.
