Similar funding was committed through the South West Development Commission for work on trail sections in the South West region. The partnerships resulted in a $6 million project that completed the Munda Biddi Trail from Mundaring to Albany.
On 7 April 2013, 26 riders set off on the Munda Biddi Epic 1000 event, the first opportunity for cyclists to ride the full trail from Albany to Mundaring. The trail was declared officially open at a ceremony at the end of the ride in Mundaring on 28 April. The completion of the trail’s southern section makes it the world’s longest continuous off-road cycle track at 1,000km.
To complement this significant tourism asset, the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation established a Cycle Friendly Business Program to support the growth of cycle tourism in each community along the trail.
