Region-Boosting Events Attract Support
Nine Great Southern events are among 62 regional events around Western Australia awarded State Government grants through Tourism WA recently.
Tourism WA’s Regional Events Scheme allocates up to $1 million in funding annually, in grants of $5,000 to $40,000, towards smaller and developing regional events in WA.
Events that receive funding showcase regional WA and encourage people to travel and explore the unique features of the State, helping to boost regional economies and supporting local jobs.
Funded events in our region include several the GSDC has helped to develop over years, such as the Great Southern Treasures Bloom Festival, as well as a new event in the Albany Maritime Festival. The funding spans the region, taking in Katanning’s Harmony Festival and Grapes and Gallops in Mount Barker.
Great Southern venues for the Southern Art and Craft Trail range from Denmark to Gnowangerup, and the event crosses into neighbouring regions with venues in Manjimup, Walpole, Lake Grace and Hopetoun.
Southern Peaks, Run Albany, Albany Classic Around the Houses and the Denmark Festival of Voice also received grants through the Regional Events Scheme.
All events are subject to cautions about potential postponement if required in response to COVID-19 impacts.
