Destination of Natural Choice

Tourism is a significant sector of the Great Southern’s current and future economy. The region has high value tourism assets: not only natural attractions and world-rated biodiversity but also destinations with deep connections to Australia’s culture and heritage. A range of major events and activities links tourism with the region’s dynamic arts and creative sector.

Project components under Destination of Natural Choice include upgrades to visitor infrastructure, support for cultural and heritage assets, and initiatives for new tourism trails.

Spectacular new viewing platforms at The Gap and Natural Bridge were opened in May 2016, marking progress on the Destination of Natural Choice transformational project. The feature film Breath contributee to marketing the region nationally and internationally, and serves to diversify the economy by building the creative sector.
