Milestone for Albany Ring Road
The Great Southern’s biggest infrastructure project, the Albany Ring Road, has reached a milestone with the start of construction works on the second and final phase of current works.

Construction started in late 2020 on the Menang Drive-Albany Highway interchange and link to South Coast Highway, which are scheduled for completion this year. Limited use of the interchange may be available from April.
The GSDC advocated for the Ring Road to provide a more efficient and safer freight link from the region’s hinterland to the Port of Albany. On the announcement of the project, our local content advisers sought to ensure local contractors stood to benefit from the $175 million build, which was supported by $140 from the Australian Government and $35 million in Western Australian Government funding.
Work on Stage 3 of the project includes the temporary closure of Link Road from Lancaster Road to South Coast Highway (local traffic permitted). The closure, expected to end in May, enables the construction of connecting ramps for the Ring Road-South Coast Highway intersection.
