Funding backs value-adding

People in fish processing factory

An Albany enterprise is adding value to Great Southern sardines, formerly sold as bait, with the help of a $175,000 grant through the State Government’s Value Add Abribusiness Investment Attraction Fund.

Albany Seafoods installed machinery to fillet, crumb and vacuum pack the sardines.
In addition to raw fillets, the facility can also marinate fillets, producing a ready-to-eat product that is in demand across Australia.

Member for Albany Peter Watson and local media representatives visited the factory on Monday 12 August to learn about the process and inaugurate the machinery.

The fund, administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, aims to support investment in new value adding projects or expansion opportunities by agribusinesses.
