Phone coverage growing
Coverage continues to grow for mobile phone users in the Great Southern. Two new base stations were activated recently in the Shire of Denmark, providing coverage around Peaceful Bay and Nornalup.
A morning tea at the Denmark Hotel on Wednesday 27 February celebrated the launch of the new services. Pictured above are, from left, Denmark Shire Councillor Janine Phillips, Telstra Regional General Manager Boyd Brown, DPIRD Principal Project Officer Regional Telecommunications Penny Griffin and Local Content Adviser Great Southern Development Commission Gavin Ellis.
The new services are part of coverage improvements provided by 34 mobile base stations identified with the help of the GSDC and funded through the Regional Telecommunications Project (RTP), along with the national Mobile Black Spot Program and Telstra.
The RTP is a $65 million State Government initiative to establish 231 mobile sites in regional Western Australia. Voice and data coverage improvements through the RTP contribute to community safety, tourism development and business efficiency.
