Foundations set for student housing
Work has started on a major initiative to provide affordable student accommodation in Albany.
Under the management of the Great Southern Community Housing Association, five four-bedroom units are under construction in the Norman House precinct, providing 20 beds for higher education students.
The $3 million project is supported by $1.17 million of State Government funding secured with the assistance of the GSDC.

On Friday 24 March, Albany MLA Peter Watson joined the project team at the site as the first concrete pour started, laying the foundations for the units. Mr Watson is shown above right, with, from left, Peter Adams (Great Southern Community Housing), Tom Stevens (H+H Architects) and Brett Joynes (Wauters Construction).
The units will complement the historic Norman House, which will remain intact.
The GSDC helped to prepare a business case to secure the funding for the project.
