Grant Supports Albany Classic Bridge

A pedestrian crossover supported by a $27,000 Regional Economic Development (RED) grant through the GSDC helped spectators to move freely around the Albany Classic Car Race on the WA Day long weekend.

The RED grant enabled the Albany Classic Motorsport Club to acquire shipping containers that were converted into a safe crossing over the racing circuit in Peels Place.

Combined with a similar structure in York Street, the new bridge meant that spectators could access all of the course without having to wait for designated pedestrian crossing breaks in the race program. Race organisers were able to deliver a more continuous program by scheduling fewer pedestrian breaks.

Plenty of spectators used the new bridge when they defied the weather forecast to turn out for the race, which ran in fine conditions apart from a few brief showers.

The GSDC has supported the Albany Classic in various ways since 2006, including a grant for a regional extension program in 2017.
