Five Great Southern Projects to Share $586,100 in RED Grants

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan visited Venco Products in Kinjarling / Albany to announce the fourth round of Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants for the Great Southern on Friday 14 January 2022. Five Great Southern projects were funded, sharing a total of $586,100 of State Government funding supporting almost $3.2 million in total project value.

Venco Products is a manufacturer of pottery and ceramics equipment, and secured a grant of $190,000 towards the construction of a new manufacturing facility. The company markets its products throughout Australia and internationally. Its new premises will enable it to expand production to meet increasing demand.

Aspect Modular is an established maker of bespoke modular homes. The firm is currently based in Perth and, with the support of a $190,000 RED Grant, will relocate to Denmark. The move is expected to create jobs and trade in the Great Southern.

Gnowangerup Aboriginal Corporation and the Tambellup Aboriginal Progress Association will extend the reach of their native plant propagation activities with a $94,000 RED Grant. With the support of South Coast NRM, the two organisations aim to transition their pilot-scale seed propagation and nursery into commercial businesses.

Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation will use a $62,100 RED Grant to support the establishment of a native plant nursery to serve growing land-based enterprises in carbon offsetting, land regeneration, bushfoods and cultural tourism.

Albany Business Centre secured a $50,000 RED Grant to support the redevelopment of the centre’s existing buildings to increase space for start-ups, improve accessibility and enable increased workshops and education.

The announcement of the fourth-round recipients brings up a total of 33 Great Southern projects supported by RED Grants, with total funding of more than $3 million. In the Great Southern, the program supports a total project value of $16.7 million.

The RED Grants program is a $40.8 million (over seven years) State Government initiative that invests in local projects to stimulate economic growth and development in Western Australia’s nine regions.
